From the hotels · 3 min walk

İstiklal Street runs through the heart of Beyoğlu, from Taksim Square down towards Tünel and the Galata slopes. In Ottoman times it was known as the Grande Rue de Péra, lined with embassies, churches, arcades and apartment buildings, many of which still stand.

Today it is a pedestrian street, busy from morning until late at night. The historic red tram still runs along it, and its side streets and passages open onto cafés, bookshops, galleries and music venues.
